Become a Quick Change Artist With Silk Scarves!

Talk about convenience. With a silk scarf you can change your look, style and appearance in a matter of minutes.

Carry several in your glove box. With all the different colors and styles you can go from a business look to an attractive casual look.

These quick change artists come in a vast array of different styles and purposes. For this reason they are worn the world over and have been for centuries. As a matter of fact, considering that many cultures wear robes rather than pants and shirts, silk scarves could possibly be one of the most common pieces of clothing in the world.

In cold climates and chilly seasons, silk scarves are worn for warmth. They keep the wind, rain and snow from blowing down the neck and sending a chill up the spine. Made of silk, they wrap around the neck and make for a cozy walk down the street. Conversely, in drier, warmer regions of the world thin neck scarves are worn to keep the dust out and to provide a quickly accessible filter whenever the wind picks up. They wrap around the neck and serve as a ready mouth and nose guard, even pulling over the hair to keep it relatively clean as well.

Have you ever wondered why the aviators in their bi-wing airplanes wore silk scarves? It wasn’t for looks. They were actually worn to prevent chafing of the neck from their coat collars.

Silk scarves are worn for more than merely weather-related utilitarian purposes of course. Fashion interests and stylistic desires alone can be enough to motivate a person to pull a scarf or shawl out of the closet. A silk scarf might perfectly complement an evening dress and a cashmere shawl might be exactly the thing to wear with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt on a fresh autumn day. A silk scarf is a great accessory because it is so easy to throw on or slip off.

A person can have a couple different looks throughout the day without having to change their clothes.

Because of their versatility, neck scarves often serve decorative purposes as well. Whether for religious purposes, ceremonial designations, or reasons of allegiance, a scarf is often worn in order to say something about the person wearing it.

Religions such as Islam and Catholicism use scarves and shawls to denote piety, particularly among their women. Clubs and organizations such as the Scouts or Guides use scarves as part of the uniform in order to set themselves apart according to rank but to set their club life apart from regular life. Universities and athletic teams use neck wear in order for students and supporters to declare allegiance to the team or institution. Particularly in European football, scarves hold incredible symbolic value and serve as individual banners for the cause.

Whatever a person’s reason for wearing a silk scarf, they are in good company whenever donning this piece of clothing. Scarves have been worn in all times and places and as long as people have necks this will continue to be the case. The only question is what kind, color and style of silk scarf to wear?

How To Wear Silk Scarves

Silk scarves are an accessory that are loved by men and women of every age. If you care about your appearance, and want to make the right impression no matter where you go, this is an accessory that should definitely be in your closet.

Apart from the statement they give off, this type of scarf is also inherently practical. It can be worn to keep you warm on a cold winter's day, and does not make you feel itchy as is the case with a woolen design. In the summer months, silk can help to keep you cool, and minimize excessive sweating.

There are many ways to wear and tie a silk scarf. If you want to look your best at all times, take a moment to check out the following suggestions. The way the scarf is worn will in part depend upon it's size, shape, and overall design.

The simplest way to wear a scarf is to drape each end around the neck and tie them together. To create the right kind of look, i. E., one that is stylish, you should try to ensure that one end hangs down further than the other. This would be a great way to wear a scarf informally, perhaps with a denims or a summer dress.

If you are a woman, and want to protect your hair from a harsh climate, you should place a scarf on top of your head so that it hangs down covering your neck. The two ends can then be gathered under the chin and ties together. This is a classical look, and one that has never gone out of fashion.

There is also the possibility of wearing a silk scarf in the same way as a bandana. You would need to place the scarf on your forehead, and then sweep it back to cover your hair, the ends can then be tied together at the back of your neck. This is an option that is useful if you are having a bad hair day.

The 80's Fashion in Silk Scarves

The 80s was considered to be a good period for the fashion industry.

It was time when western fashion houses were adopting fashion from all over the world and appearance became an important aspect. This was the period when the hippy look made way for yuppies who's urban professionals wanted to look and feel good.

It was during this period that fashion actually left the big screen and made its way to the small screen with TV dramas like Dynasty and Dallas

Fashion started influencing everyday life for many people, and women were seen in tailored suits with wide shoulders or at the very least they were wearing jackets. This led to an increased popularity of fashion silk scarves and women were seen wearing long scarves with practically everything they wore.

The 80's fashion silk scarves were either wrapped around the neck or draped on a single shoulder to soften the severe look of the tailored (business type) suit. The colors were vibrant and bright, lending a surreal feel... at least that is what we say now when we look back!

However, then it was considered to be okay and trendy.

It was during this time that the hand painted look of silk scarves became extremely popular. The demand for branded silk scarves also increased as different brand names started targeting urban professional women across America rather than concentrating on select few. This opened up a complete new realm for women who could purchase designer fashion silk scarfs without worrying too much about the cost.

So, these scarfs became staple fashion statements, and although many of the long and large scarves were inconvenient to wear women were hardly ever seen without them. The scarves during this era were bold, loud with plenty of multiple hues.

In fact, one the most popular silk scarves was the rainbow striped scarf. This was loud and in the colors of the rainbow... worn on everything!

The 80's led to the commercialization of handmade paintings that were looking more at the business aspect rather than creativity. They were being made with hardly any regard to color or design. Today these scarves seem vulgar and kitsch, but they have gone on to become collectors’ items, and many collectors would pay an arm and a leg to own these priceless pieces.

Just like now, scarves in the 80's were used as way of expressing yourself. Moods, opinions and styles were expressed through scarves, and that is something that has not changed over the last two decades. You can play the temptress or portray grace and elegance just by donning silk scarves in different colors and designs.

The 80's may have gone but the essence of the scarf lives on even today, and women can be seen proudly wearing to compliment their attire and looks.

For those of you who yearn for the 80's, good news is round the corner! Fashion from 80's is making a comeback and you can many of the styles at www.FashionScarvesAndShawls.com.

Mens Scarves... Woolen Statements!

In today’s world, men have to do more than their fathers to catch an eye.

Just being clean and smartly dressed simply isn’t enough anymore. Women has come into their own and the balance of power between the sexes over the last few decades has started to equalize. Men are now expected to show some sense of fashion as well as look masculine. A quality men scarf is a timeless way to do both.

Select an Accomplice

Take a look at your wardrobe. Most men gravitate toward one or two colors in the spectrum. Maybe you are a cool blue guy or possibly a brown earth dweller. Perhaps slick dark black or warm reds are your thing. Find a scarf or two with simple patterns or of a singular color that go well with much of what you wear.

Get Twisted

Take the time to learn some cool ways to tie your new men scarf. Do a little research, get on-line and avoid looking like someone who has never worn one until an hour ago. A simple search of “how to tie men scarf” should bring up plenty of great ideas. Practice tying a couple of knots you think look best for your scarf. If you take it off and want to put it back on you don’t want to look like you can’t recall how you had it.

Just memorize one or two ways at first. Consider how bulky the knot will look and if it will overpower the rest of what you are wearing.

Go Out and Say Something

That’s right, actually wear it. A quality men scarf can be worn in a lot of situations and look great. Now most of your friends won’t compliment you on your good sense of fashion but you’ll have definitely see the difference in attitude of those who have been noticing you on a different level.

Great Ideas for Shawl - Brooch Pins

Even when you’ve got the best ideas for styling your stole or wrap, keeping it in place is another matter. Some styles on wearing a shawl do need another useful fashion accessory – shawl pins. These gorgeous pieces of jewelry are the perfect accessory to go with your shawls and wraps.

When you are at home and just wrapped up in your favorite stole, you don’t need to be fashion conscious at all. Just grab anything that can hold it and keep you in your warm and snuggly state. A big safety pin or a chopstick will do, or a knitting needle which you can weave in and out of your woolen wrap.

However, when you decide to hit the streets, whether going to the office, or for casual stroll or shopping spree, or for an evening out, having something to go with your stole requires a more-than-spontaneous solution. But there is a solution to this problem. Just like wraps and scarves in general, shawl pins come in a variety of materials, colors, designs, and sizes.

The more formal of these are the crystal brooches. With attractive and intricate designs, these accessories are perfect for your wraps and scarves for a polished and elegant finish. When not in use as stole or scarf accessories, these brooch pins can also be used as accents for your totes and purses.

Another popular type is the wood shawl pin, made from a variety of trees such as aromatic cedar, yellowheart, bocote, mahogany, walnut, and cherry. Most pin makers pride themselves on being eco-friendly, using only wood fallen from the trees such that no trees had to be cut down just to produce these accessories.

The wood is then hand cut with a scroll saw, finely hand sanded until smooth, and oil or polyurethane coated for a glossy and durable finish. Much attention and detail is given into each of these items so you can be sure you will be using not just a stylish add-on to your wrap, but also a work of art.

Abalone shawl pins are also available for use with your favorite wrap. This unique accessory is sure to spice up your outfit with some glamour while displaying its functionality in keeping a stole in place, or holding a buttonless sweater or vest closed. These chic fastenings are made from abalone shells, formed into geometric shapes the more common of which are round, triangular, and square, and paired with a handcrafted ebony stick.

For your everyday wrap or special occasion scarf, there is always a shawl pin that goes just right with it. Shop around and find one that can keep you looking stylish in your wrap without having to worry about holding it in place.

Of course, don't forget to try the animal brooch pins. Fantastic!

It is soft, lustrous, shimmering and durable. It has good absorbency which makes it comfortable to wear in all seasons. It was first discovered in China around the 27th century BC, and later moved to other parts of the world. The fiber produced was so treasured that it became a measure of richness.

These garments range from evening wear to sports wear. It is used for suits, office wear, as a blouse and silk scarves and can be worn for all occasions.

Silk scarves, as an accessory, are not exclusively set aside for women; men can integrate them in their attire as well. In olden days, pilots used them as an inevitability rather than an accessory as it assisted them to keep away from the oily smoke emitted from the airplane engine. But, now they are a fashion statement for both men and women and every designer is including scarves in their assortment. There are many alternatives to craft a man’s fashion declaration with one of these scarfs. Now, with the increasing fashion trends, gone are they days where scarves were restricted for women.

For a professional wear avoid printed or beaded scarves instead choose soft and subtle plain colors. Scarves for men serve both as convenience and fashion. Scarves when worn by men look good and keep their necks warm and look well-dressed. Scarves come in many colors. These masculine garments are both beautiful and masculine when worn. White depicts purity, freshness and cleanliness. White enables fresh beginnings. Silk Print Scarves... Beautiful!

Beautifully printed silk scarves are considered the perfect fashion accessory because of their striking patterns, vibrant colors and nature-inspired prints that can add pizazz to even the most boring outfit.

Many people have no idea about the manner in which silk scarves are designed and printed. Every designer initiates the designing of a silk scarves based on certain indistinct and vague ideas that either stem from imagination or from any already established illustrations. These designs are then outlined in the form of sketches or drawings thereby providing a clear and distinct picture.

You can even use an already existing motif. A stencil is prepared from these drawings, which is used as the basis for each color that needs to be used in the printing of silk screen. The final color composition is then tested on a paper before printing it on the fabric.

The next important part of printing is to select the raw material or the silk fabric. Companies usually prefer to use to the best quality of silk that is available in the market. The final part is the printing. Usually, two different types of silkscreen printing are followed. In one type, the colors are applied on the fabric one after the other. Another form of printing, the base fabric is always kept dark. Distinct patterns are achieved by removing the dark color at particular areas and replacing it with appropriate light color shades.

This is known as discharge printing. Once the designs are printed on the scarf, it is important to allow the colors to dry thoroughly. The ends of the scarf are then cut and processed accurately before releasing the product into the market. Processing involves different aspects such as adding shine and softness to the fabric and also getting the edges of the scarf rolled or hemmed. International brands such as Hermes prefer the ends to be rolled by hand rather than machines. This is because hand-rolled hems provide accurate corners.

Apart from this, the highly irregular intermittent stitches that are present between intervals add an additional charm and beauty to the scarf.

Mens Scarves.... Stand Apart with a Good Silk Scarf!

Picture the sophisticated looks of great looking silk scarves... presenting a style sure to set you apart from the crowd. The pairing of a handsome coat and wool or silk men scarf is sure to mark you as a man of distinction and single you out in a positive manner.

Today's men are encouraged to be more expressive in their taste and style. Blending in is great if you don’t want to be noticed, but if that is not your goal, than doing something tasteful yet unique is a must. A scarf is a great way to achieve that crisp, finished look that people are sure to recognize as a sign you take care of yourself and are interested in what others think.

Here are a few suggestions to ensure you look fabulous when wearing this hot accessory.

The basic tuck: Choice a subdued color that blends with your coat and make a single wrap around your neck. Casually cross the ends over at about your sternum, tucking both ends into the coat. Leave the top of the coat unfastened exposing the scarf mid-way down the cross-over.

The single leg tuck: Again choose a coordinating color men scarf and make a single wrap around the neck. Cross the ends over in the same fashion but tuck only the leg crossing over top, leaving the other hanging down over the coat’s closures to just above the belt line. The Italian loop Choose a scarf at least one and one-half meters or four and half feet long and bring the ends together. Wrap the folded scarf once around your neck placing the ends through the loop (created by folding it in half). Pull the ends to appropriately snug it to your neck. The ends will look acceptable whether tucked in or left out. If you are going for a more refined look, choose to tuck them in. If you are wanting a more casual appearance, leave the ends exposed.

The Accordion Drape: Choose a long neutral scarf and start folding about eight centimeter or three inch sections back and forth creating an accordion pleat. Leave about twenty centimeters or about a foot from each end unfolded. Place the pleated section around the neck and inside the coat collar and leaving the ends to fall outside the coat.

The Collar Accent: Try using a more bold colored and shorter men scarf that compliments your coat or pant to create an effective accent. Wrap it around your neck but under the lapels and collar letting it lay flat against the coat or jacket. Allow the ends to fall for shorter scarves or tie in an overhand knot at about the breastbone for longer scarves.

'Whether you choose to compliment your coat or jacket by leaving the scarf on your outwear or whether you incorporate it over a blazer or sweater for part of your all day look, you are sure to improve your appearance by incorporating a men scarf. Take advantage of every opportunity to express your inner personality outwardly by having fun and experimenting with a men scarf.
